Welcome

Sarah Andrews

Welcome!  I am Assistant Professor of Global Studies at Principia College.  I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Virginia in 2016.  Within Comparative Politics, my research interests center around government accountability and the political economy of development, with a regional focus on sub-Saharan Africa.  My dissertation investigated the conditions under which and mechanisms by which public policies implemented by the bureaucracy are politically manipulated for electoral clientelism.  My broader research agenda focuses on both the relationship between politicians and bureaucrats and the microfoundations of party-voter linkages in sub-Saharan Africa.  I have conducted field research, including conducting original surveys, in Burkina Faso and Malawi.

Prior to graduate school, I served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Burkina Faso from 2007-2009.
